The U.S. Department of Defense's Defense Threat Reduction Agency awarded $4.3 million to Prenosis for the development of an early-detection sepsis test for military fighting in combat.
Prenosis has developed an emergency point-of-care (ePOC) system, which builds upon its Immunix platform that uses machine-learning algorithms to identify sepsis as early as possible in hospitals. The platform will now be adapted for use on service members on the frontlines by replacing the standard large clinical lab analyzers with a mobile system.
The ePOC system includes Prenosis' ImmunoScan point-of-care technology, wearable devices, and a central mobile application that is linked to its proprietary NOSIS dataset, a hybrid biomarker-clinical dataset for sepsis.
To develop the hardware for the project, Prenosis will contract with immune insights company Kypha. In addition, Prenosis has licensed Kypha's RapiPlex reader and multiplex cartridge technology platform to supply data for its proprietary algorithms at the point of care in the field.
