Enzo Biochem has received an expansion of its emergency use authorization (EUA) from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to use pooled swab samples with the company's Ampiprobe SARS-CoV-2 test system.
The EUA covers pooled use of Enzo's test with up to five individual upper respiratory swab samples. It also includes pooled samples on three different platforms, including Enzo's Genflex automated high-throughput system.
Testing up to five samples at once can rapidly expand SARS-CoV-2 testing capacity, noted Enzo CEO Elazar Rabbani, PhD. He added that many states are still struggling to improve access to testing.
