Quest Diagnostics has acquired select assets of outreach laboratory services in Pennsylvania and Ohio from Steward Health Care System, a large, private, and fully-integrated for-profit system based in Dallas. In addition, subject to transfer of the laboratory license, Quest has also acquired certain assets from the laboratory business serving Hawthorn Medical Associates in Dartmouth, MA.
Quest's full-service laboratory in Pittsburgh will provide testing for physicians and patients previously serviced by Steward's outreach laboratories in parts of Pennsylvania and Ohio, according to a company statement. Quest has been providing professional lab management services to Steward; the transaction aims to broaden access to diagnostic information services for providers and patients, Quest said.
Steward Health Care System is pursuing several strategic transactions, including the potential sale or re-tenanting of certain hospital operations as well as the divestiture of noncore operations, according to Medical Properties Trust.
