3M and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) are working together to develop a rapid point-of-care diagnostic for COVID-19 disease.

The project is being conducted under the auspices of the U.S. National Institutes of Health's (NIH) Rapid Acceleration of Diagnostics Tech (RADx Tech) program, a COVID-19 diagnostics initiative, and has received $500,000 in funding, 3M said. The company is working with a research team led by Hadley Sikes, PhD, of the MIT Department of Chemical Engineering.

The test would identify viral antigens and deliver results in minutes, without the need for samples to be sent to labs.
