The George Washington University (GWU) Milken Institute School of Public Health plans to provide laboratory space to Los Angeles lab startup Curative for COVID-19 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing of military personnel.
Curative operates a CLIA-certified lab in Los Angeles, where it processes self-collected oral swab samples, with 24-hour turnaround. Per a recent agreement with the U.S. Air Force, the company will train army personnel in swab self-collection and run up to 50,000 lab tests per day. The tests will be processed in the university's Biosafety Level 2 laboratory and its department of anthropology, GWU said.
"If the initial launch shows the testing can be ramped up, Curative will establish eight additional testing locations across the United States to support testing of the U.S. population," GWU said in a statement.
