Group K Diagnostics plans to test its MultiNostic point-of-care (POC) finger-stick blood test for liver function in a clinical trial through a partnership with Health Network Laboratories, a lab services company with operations in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

MultiNostic is a microfluidic device used in conjunction with an iOS device and cellphone app to deploy an image processing algorithm to render a diagnosis. Results are available within 20 minutes, which allows more efficient management of patients, according to Group K.

The companies are partnering on a study that will be conducted through two patient service centers run by Health Network Laboratories. The study will assess the test's accuracy and effectiveness, as well as timeliness of care, impact on administrative workload, and patient satisfaction.

The MultiNostic product is currently being reviewed for clearance by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
