Findings and diagnosis

Microscopic findings

Bilateral kidneys are asymmetrically increased in size and contain innumerable radially arranged cysts of varying sizes with parenchymal extinction. Some cysts are filled with clear fluid while some have hemorrhagic contents. Normal landmarks in the kidneys are not seen.

Differential findings

  • Autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease
  • Acquired cystic disease
  • Simple cysts
  • Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease

Diagnosis: Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD)
