May 7, 2020 -- The U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) has ordered three mobile medical labs for rapid COVID-19 diagnostic testing from MRIGlobal, a Kansas City-based nonprofit contract research organization whose services include operation of facilities for government agencies.

The contract is worth over $2 million and covers the purchase of three Athena mobile laboratories for sample processing and testing, two of which are slated for delivery in May and the third in June, MRIGlobal said in a statement announcing the contract. Each mobile lab is designed to allow for processing of over 600 samples every 24 hours.
