Labs gear up to diagnose novel fungal infection
April 15, 2019 -- Clinical laboratories are being advised by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on how to handle a relatively new fungal infection, Candida auris, that is detectable only with complex tests such as mass spectrometry, sequencing, and novel polymerase chain reaction assays.  Discuss
Revenue from POC testing to outpace traditional IVD test market
April 9, 2019 -- New in vitro diagnostic (IVD) tests capable of being performed at the point of care (POC) for patients are making major inroads. In a new report, market research firm Kalorama Information shares how growth in POC testing is outstripping the growth of more traditional lab-based IVD tests, and how the POC test market will produce $30 billion in sales globally by 2023.  Discuss
Are commercial labs falling short in prenatal testing?
April 3, 2019 -- A study published April 3 in Genetics in Medicine found that commercial laboratories offering noninvasive prenatal screening (NIPS) for genetic disorders were not meeting guidelines published by the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics. Liquid biopsy tracks response to lung cancer treatment
February 13, 2019 -- Two recently published studies indicate that blood-based liquid biopsy can be used to track lung cancer treatment response by measuring levels of circulating tumor DNA in patients who are receiving treatments such as immunotherapy. Both studies found that liquid biopsy worked better than imaging-based methods.  Discuss
