The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has cleared an at-home saliva test for SARS-CoV-2 from Phosphorus.
Patients order the test online and complete a medical questionnaire that is reviewed by a physician; once the physician approves the medical information, the collection kit is shipped to the patient. Results are available 72 hours after the sample is received at the laboratory, Phosphorus said.
The test is the second at-home coronavirus saliva test authorized by the FDA, after an assay developed by Rutgers Clinical Genomics Laboratory at RUCDR Infinite Biologics, which was cleared in May.
