The DiaSpect Tm hemoglobin point-of-care test from EKF Diagnostics will be deployed for detecting iron-deficient anemia in a remote region of Ghana, West Africa, as part of an educational study-abroad program this summer.
A group of nursing students from the Eleanor Mann School of Nursing at the University of Arkansas will use the handheld hemoglobin analyzer for people who live in small, remote villages in Ghana, where anemia is a high-risk condition that can be life-threatening.
The study-abroad program will include use of the analyzer for elderly people, building on a trip by the same group last year that focused on women of child-bearing age. EKF's product is branded as Consult Hb in the U.S.
