Infinity BiologiX has reported that its reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction assay used to detect SARS-CoV-2 in samples from individuals suspected of COVID-19 can also detect the omicron variant.
The company also said the presence of the omicron variant has caused extension of its work with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to sequence the SARS-CoV-2 genome from positive COVID-19 samples across the U.S.
The contract aims to provide genomic sequencing and new variant detection of SARS-CoV-2 samples to allow public health officials to investigate the effect of variants on disease severity, as well as the effectiveness of vaccines and treatment.
