Healthcare system Sutter Health and GE HealthCare have entered into a seven-year strategic partnership to expand and enhance diagnostic imaging services through artificial intelligence (AI) across Sutter Health’s California network.

The partnership, named the Care Alliance, will focus on providing consistency in care and the adoption of technologies across locations to ensure a "seamless and coordinated experience for clinicians and patients across the Sutter Health system," according to a statement from both companies.

The companies said that the first area the Care Alliance will focus on is implementing an accelerated technology program across the Sutter Health system that will include AI-powered positron emission technology/computed tomography (CT), single-photon emission CT, magnetic resonance imaging, CT, x-ray, nuclear medicine, and ultrasound technologies, to improve image quality and reduce scan times. The Sutter Health network serves 3.5 million people in northern California and the central coast.

Furthermore, the partnership will incorporate GE HealthCare’s interventional, mammography, diagnostic cardiology, maternal and infant care, and anesthesia technologies in Sutter Health’s ambulatory care centers, helping to address the need for accessible care outside of the hospital settings, the companies said.

The companies noted that the agreement will also include GE Healthcare contributing to Sutter Health’s workforce development programs, including assistance with ongoing training and education for technologists, nurses, and physicians, as well as addressing staffing shortages and needs through talent outreach and development programs.
