When Ibex Medical Analytics conducted its inaugural "Patient Insight Report on Cancer Diagnostics" survey, the company found that more than half (59%) of respondents reported that had received incorrect medical test results.
Some "7% reported that either they or a loved one received a negative diagnosis when it was actually cancer, and 6% were wrongly diagnosed with cancer," reinforcing the public's concerns about the accuracy of the diagnostic process, according to Ibex.
Notably, Ibex's survey of U.S. adults age 18 and older reported that 60% of respondents are comfortable with artificial intelligence (AI) supporting their doctor in making their cancer diagnosis.
Of the 2,000 respondents, a majority (80%) stated they would pay for a second opinion from a specialist in the specific type of cancer being evaluated. Additionally, 62% indicated concern that they or a loved one will be diagnosed with cancer in the near future.
The survey, which was conducted online August 1-5, explored patients' perceptions of receiving medical diagnoses, particularly for cancer. The results underscore the importance of advanced cancer diagnostic technologies, Ibex said.
