SiO2 Materials Science announced the launch of its unbreakable Synergy blood collection tube for use in genetic diagnostics.
The tube was designed for use in cell-free DNA (cfDNA), cfRNA, and genomic DNA (gDNA) pairing using one sample. According to the company, it optimizes nucleic acid recovery and cancer tumor cells from the point of blood draw.
The tube is being positioned as an alternative to plastic or glass products. It has an "oxygen and moisture barrier like glass, but it is lightweight and unbreakable like plastic," which allows for greater vacuum retention, longer sample preservation, and safer shipping, the company explained in a white paper. Shelf life is two to three times longer than with plastics, according to SiO2.
