GE HealthCare has reached an agreement to acquire Intelligent Ultrasound's clinical artificial intelligence (AI) software business for approximately $51 million.
GE HealthCare noted that it intends to fund this transaction with cash on hand; the firms expect to complete the transaction in the final quarter of 2024, subject to customary closing conditions. Additional details of the transaction have not been disclosed publicly.
In a statement, GE HealthCare said that it plans to integrate the Cardiff, Wales, U.K.-based ultrasound company's integrated, AI-based tools into its own U.S. ultrasound portfolio, aiming to enhance ease of use and improve workflows for clinicians and patients. In addition, GE HealthCare plans to incorporate the team of research and development experts from Intelligent Ultrasound into its own, the firm said.
This agreement follows GE HealthCare's acquisition of Caption Health in 2023, which added new capabilities in AI-enabled image guidance and AI development for early disease detection to its portfolio.
