Bioinformatics firm MiLaboratories announced that it has closed a $10 million series A funding round alongside the launch of its Platforma.bio Software Development Kit (SDK).

Madrid-based Kfund led the round with additional participation from Speedinvest and other international investors.

The financing will enable the San Francisco-based MiLaboratories, which also has an R&D facility in Bilbao, Spain, to scale and strategically expand its operations with a focus on the U.S. market, the company said in a statement.

Platforma.bio SDK is free to academic scientists, with the aim of assisting them in developing custom analytical tools and applications.

"We believe that opening our platform to the developer community will accelerate the adoption of modern computational tools, setting the next level of biomedical research," Stan Poslavsky, CEO of MiLaboratories, said.

According to MiLaboratories, Platforma.bio SDK is a high-performance software platform that enables biologists to analyze next-generation sequencing (NGS) data independently. The platform is designed to streamline NGS data analysis by reducing dependency on bioinformaticians, speeding data processing, and integrating seamlessly with existing systems, according to MiLaboratories.
