Biotech firm and drug manufacturer Amgen has announced a $1 billion expansion in North Carolina, with plans to establish a second manufacturing facility in the state.

The $1 billion facility, to be built in Holly Springs, NC, will incorporate “cutting-edge technologies and sustainable practices,” according to a statement from the Thousand Oaks, CA-based firm. The company anticipates that the facility will create 370 new jobs in the region.

Further details on a timeline for the facility or production were not yet available.

According to Amgen, its planned expansion will bring the company’s total planned investment in the state to more than $1.5 billion. Amgen broke ground on its first manufacturing facility in Holly Springs in March 2022; the facility is expected to be operational in 2025. The company also opened a manufacturing facility in Ohio in February 2024.

Amgen currently has manufacturing facilities in California, Ireland, the Netherlands, Ohio, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, and Singapore, with approximately 24,000 employees worldwide.
