Medical device company Satio has formed a strategic partnership with Senegal nonprofit foundation Institut Pasteur de Dakar in an initiative aimed at enabling low-cost access to vaccines and diagnostics in Africa and elsewhere.

Under the deal, the company's SatioRx intradermal patches will be combined with Institut Pasteur de Dakar technologies to drive clinical development and access to vaccine patches. The partnership will also encompass diagnostic patches for blood sampling, genetic testing, and pathogen surveillance, Satio said.

Furthermore, both Satio and Institut Pasteur de Dakar will collaborate with aseptic packaging company Intact to explore alternatives to vials for vaccines, such as plastic pouches. They also hope to utilize the SatioRx intradermal patches and Intact's aseptic fluid transfer technology to replace traditional needles.
