U.S. biotech firm Microbiologics announced its acquisition of SensID, a manufacturer of reference materials and quality controls for molecular diagnostics.

While financial and other terms of the agreement were not disclosed, SensID will continue operating in Rostock, Germany, postacquisition, thus becoming Microbiologics' first site outside the U.S., according to Microbiologics.

St. Cloud, MN-based Microbiologics specializes in infectious disease reference materials and contract research services. The firm offers a collection of third-party IVD controls for QC testing of traditional and molecular infectious disease diagnostics; additionally, it collaborates with diagnostic technology developers on the design and manufacture of custom biological materials.

SensID specializes in characterized reference materials and quality controls used for R&D, validation, and QC of molecular diagnostic tests. The firm recently launched the first ESR1 mutations reference set for validating cell-free DNA mutation detection methods, as well as a platform-agnostic control for dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase testing.

The acquisition will expand Microbiologics' diagnostic solutions into molecular oncology and precision medicine, complementing the company's offerings in infectious disease and advancing innovation in diagnostics, according to both companies.
