Molecular diagnostics firm BillionToOne broke ground Wednesday on a 220,000-sq-ft facility in Austin, TX, that is expected to bring 1,000 jobs to the city.

The new facility, located on East Parmer Lane in the EastVillage ATX development in Austin, is expected to be occupied by the end of 2026 and will consist of six buildings. It will be a CLIA-certified facility, as noted in a statement from Opportunity Austin, an economic development partnership group.

"We are thrilled to welcome BillionToOne to the Austin region," Opportunity Austin CEO Ed Latson said. "Their decision to expand here aligns with the strategic focus outlined in our new Life Science Study conducted by McKinsey. This move not only strengthens our position as a burgeoning life sciences hub but also showcases Austin's unique technology foundation that continues to attract world-class companies."

The Menlo Park, CA-based BillionToOne has seen its sales grow to $125 million over the past four years; additionally, the company recently secured a $140 million financing agreement with Oberland Capital Management, which will allow the company to repay its current term loan and build future growth, according to the firm.

"Austin's vibrant culture and high concentration of exceptional STEM graduates from its nearby universities make it the ideal location for our expansion," Oguzhan Atay, CEO of BillionToOne, said. "We're excited to continue our mission of transforming molecular diagnostics -- making them more powerful, accurate, efficient, and accessible -- from our state-of-the-art Austin laboratory, which will have a capacity of processing up to 6 million high-complexity molecular diagnostics tests every year."
