Medical technology company Hologic announced that a medical school in Germany has developed a molecular assay for detecting the SARS-CoV-2 novel coronavirus using its Panther Fusion system.
Researchers at Hannover Medical School developed the assay, according to Hologic. Panther Fusion has an open-access feature that enables medical labs to design and develop laboratory-developed tests that can run on the system.
The assay has not received CE-IVD certification in Europe or clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The next step will be to validate the assay on clinical samples, the company said.
