Clinical laboratories that opted in to receive email notifications when they filled out their application for Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) certification (Form CMS-116) will no longer get paper documents after August 27, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) said in an update.
Last year, CMS started sending the electronic CLIA certificates and fee coupons to those who opted in for email notifications during the CLIA application process. Participating laboratories can expect to get their CLIA certificates and fee coupons approximately seven to ten days quicker than paper copies, CMS said.
To go paperless, a laboratory must provide written notification to the appropriate state agency by email, or fill out the CMS-116 application form to opt in to get email notifications.
